Just My Humble Opinion
The Orbirek is known as an "elipical trainer". The actual machine pretty much lives up to everything stated about it on the informercial. Working out with the Orbitrek is still hard work. Unfortunately the Orbitrek and machines like it are incredibly boring. A half an hour on the machine will be the longest half an hour of your life!
If you are the type of person who has been successful with other types of boring equipment e.g. treadmills, stationary bikes etc., the orbitrk does offer some advantages. One of the advantages is that it is a low to no impact workout. Exercises that put stress on the joints can lead to problems. The Orbitrek excells at not doing this. It also has an advange for older men in that you are not seated like on a stationary bike. Sitting on a bike seat can often be a mistake for older men because it tends to put pressure on the prostate causing it to become inflammed.
If you purchase the Orbitrek from a TV infomercial you still are going to be faced with a common problem. That problem is that you are going to have to pay the shipping costs to your house. Furthermore, if you end up returning the product you will not only have to pay additional shipping costs but you will not be refunded the shipping costs you originally paid in the first place.
You might want to consider purchasing a similar eliptical exercise device locally. Eliptical exercise machines are commonly sold in many department stores, although I couldn't find the Orbitrek. Purchasing a similar type product in a department store carries a lot less financial risk if you want to later return the product. Also, after surfing the net, I was able to find quite a few people who had problems with the Orbitrek's crankshaft breaking. After purchasing a different brand they no longer had this problem.
Another point I would like to make is that people are not nearly as successful at losing weight doing aerobic type workouts as they are doing resistance type workouts. The Orbitrek won't do much to help you build muscle and it is this lean muscle which helps increase our resting metabolic rate and hence facilitates further fat loss.
